Distributed User Interfaces
CHI 2011 Workshop

Distributed User Interfaces (DUIs) have recently become a new field of research and development in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). The DUIs have brought about drastic changes affecting the way interactive systems are conceived. DUIs have gone beyond the fact that user interfaces are controlled by a single end user on the same computing platform in the same environment. Unlike existing user interfaces, DUIs enable end users to distribute any user interface element, from the largest one to the smallest one, across different computing platforms and physical environments. This workshop invites authors to submit contributions on concepts discussion, applications, techniques or environments where DUIs play a central role by improving the interaction experience.

  • Conceptual models for DUIs
  • DUIs on pervasive environments
  • Distributed User Interface design
  • Public display interaction and DUIs
  • DUIs and coupled displays
  • DUIs and ambient intelligence
  • Human factors in DUIs designing
  • Collaboration and DUIs
  • Design patterns in DUIs
  • DUIs on learning environment

The deadline for workshop paper submissions is February 1st, 2011. Interested researchers should submit a 4-page position paper by email to Acceptance notifications will be sent out February 21st, 2011. The workshop will be held May 7th, 2011 in Vancouver, Canada. Please note that at least one author of an accepted position paper must register for the workshop and for one or more days of the CHI 2011 conference.

Papers should be formatted according to HCI Archive Format

Accepted papers for the Workshop will appear in a Springer HCI Series book on Distributed User Interfaces. A selection of high quality papers will be proposed to be submitted as an extended version for a special issue of the International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction (IJHCI).
